A new chapter in Philippine basketball begins as Pureblends Corp. has officially taken over the NorthPort Batang Pier franchise, marking a bold entry into the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) 50th season with the rebranded Titan Maxx Giant Risers.
The confirmation came on Monday, September 29, when veteran forward Calvin Abueva shared images of the team’s new jersey on his Instagram account, revealing the new name and branding. The franchise will now compete as Titan Maxx, signaling the end of the NorthPort era.
Pureblends Corp. team owner Bryann Calantoc is taking on the challenge with open eyes—and a clear vision. Acknowledging the controversies that have surrounded the NorthPort franchise in recent years, particularly its reputation as a “farm team” benefitting other clubs under the San Miguel Corporation umbrella, Calantoc promised transparency, competitiveness, and a winning mindset under the new leadership.

“I understand the perception that NorthPort has carried in the past. But under our management, we are committed to a new direction,” Calantoc said in a recent media appearance.
“Our priority is building a winning culture, retaining talents, and competing at the highest level—not being a feeder team. Transparency, player development, and long-term competitiveness will define our approach.”
A long-time basketball enthusiast, Calantoc played the sport in high school and continues to participate in alumni leagues. But his decision to acquire the franchise was driven by more than fandom—it was also a calculated business move.
“Acquiring the NorthPort franchise was driven by two things. First, my passion to be part of the league I have admired for years, and second, the vision to position Pureblends on the biggest sports platform in the Philippines,” he explained.
“It’s both a business decision and a personal milestone, one that allows us to contribute to the growth of Philippine basketball while also realizing a lifelong dream.”
Calantoc emphasized that the new brand, Titan Maxx, will be anchored on values of hard work, identity, and resilience.
“It’s the natural extension of our team identity — maximum effort, maximum resilience, maximum results. Just like our players push to the limit every game. Fans can expect a refreshed identity that puts a premium on pride and competition.”
Titan Maxx will feature a well-balanced roster led by seasoned veterans and promising newcomers. Headlining the team are Calvin Abueva, Joshua Munzon, Jerrick Balanza, and newly acquired sharpshooter Von Pessumal. They’ll be joined by PBA rookies Mario Barasi and Chris Koon, signaling a commitment to developing young talent while staying competitive.
As the PBA celebrates its golden season, Titan Maxx aims to make a strong impression—not just with a new name and jersey, but with a new culture focused on performance, integrity, and long-term success.
