‘None of us did no wrongdoing’: Kawhi Leonard finally speaks on Clippers, Aspiration scandal

After weeks of cap circumvention allegations, Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard finally responded during the team’s media day on Tuesday.

Leonard, who has been the focal point of the scandal since Pablo Torre’s exposé about his alleged sham endorsement deal with Aspiration, denied involvement and said that he welcomes the investigation conducted by the NBA.

“The NBA is going to do their job. None of us did no wrongdoing,” Leonard said. “That’s it. We invite the investigations. It’s not going to be a distraction for me or my team.”

Leonard also disregarded Torre’s claims that he was paid $28 million by Aspiration for a “no-show” endorsement deal and said that the journalists’ reporting was not “accurate.”

“I understand the full contract and the services I had to do. I don’t deal with conspiracies or the clickbait analyst or journalism that’s going on,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s accurate, but it’s old. This is all new to you guys. The company went bankrupt a while ago, so we already knew this was going to happen,” added Leonard.

The Clippers and Leonard are under fire after details emerged last week from Torre that the star signed a $28 million “no-show” endorsement deal with a financial firm turned tree-planting organization called Aspiration.

The deal was allegedly made to circumvent the league’s salary cap restrictions, a serious offense that could cost the Clippers a lot if proven guilty. Torre’s investigation also revealed that Clippers owner Steve Ballmer invested $50 million into the organization before the deal between the former Finals MVP and Aspiration was made.

When asked by ESPN reporter Ramona Shellburne if he received the money from the deal, Leonard denied and said the only people who know what rally happened are the employees in Aspiration.

“Uh, no.“But the company went belly up. It was fraud, as everyone knows. If you want any more questions or more details about that company, you need to ask the owner or whoever else is involved in the fraud that went on.”
