Two-time world champion Rubilen Amit failed to capture the Saigon Women’s 9-Ball Open title after falling short against Taiwan’s Wei Tzu Chien, 2-1, in the finals on Friday in Vietnam.
Amit started hot after capturing the first set, 4-1, but failed to sustain the momentum, relinquishing the second set, 4-3, and the decider, 4-2.
The 43-year-old reached the finals after toppling fellow Filipina Carmille Buhat, 2-0, in the semifinals following sweeps against Savannah Easton and Jasmin Ouschan in the last 16 and quarterfinals, respectively.
On social media, Amit admitted struggles in finding her rhythm in the finals, and said she is still in the process of controlling her stress in competitions.
“At the start, I felt I was playing well despite not being 100% yet. I was genuinely happy just to be back, playing alongside other Filipinas whom I was really excited to cheer on,” Amit wrote on a Facebook post.
“By God’s grace, I was fortunate enough to reach the Finals. However, during the last match, I struggled a bit finding my alignment. I suppose I’m still really in the process of recovery, and the stress of competition took its toll on me,” she added.
The Filipino star will earn a prize purse of $13,125 (P764,000) for reaching the finals. She recently played in the World Games in China last August.
Amit is expected tosuit up the national team in the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand this December.
