Veteran center Al Horford is set to sign with the Golden State Warriors on a two-year deal, per reports.
The 39-year-old won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2024 and averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game last season.
The signing aims to plug the center holes in the Warriors’ lineup, especially after longtime starting center Kevon Looney departed for the New Orleans Pelicans this offseason.
Golden State has struggled in recent years to find a true anchor at center. Last season in Boston, he shot 36% from deep on solid volume, allowing him to stretch the floor for driving lanes and off-ball cuts — a staple of Steve Kerr’s offense.

Horford was considering retirement despite being one of the most sought-after veterans in Free Agency. He provides spacing for Golden State, who rely on Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler’s scoring and playmaking skills.
Horford’s signing comes amidst a contract stalemate between the Warriors and forward Jonathan Kuminga, who is expected to make his decision in the coming days.
The Warriors vanquished the Houston Rockets in seven games in the opening round of last year’s playoffs, but exited the postseason after falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals.
Horford is a two-time All-Star who has played at least 60 games in almost all of his seasons in the NBA and has averaged 12.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game in his career after being drafted 3rd overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2007.
