MPL PH: Smart Omega finds late rhythm, clinches first back-to-back wins

Smart Omega is starting to look like a team that refuses to fade quietly. After weeks of inconsistency, the Barangay finally stitched together its first back-to-back victories of MPL Philippines Season 16, outlasting Team Falcons PH in a hard-fought 2-1 series on Sunday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.

The result brought Omega’s record to 5-6 — just a heartbeat away from the playoff picture, trailing Twisted Minds (5-5) by half a game. For a squad once stuck in the lower half of the standings, the win could not have come at a better time.

Game 1 showcased the team’s trademark resilience. Czedrick “SUPER YOSHI” Romero (Grock) pulled off a massive two-man Tectonic Charge during a 16th-minute lord clash, giving James “Jeymz” Gloria (Uranus) the chance to clean up with a double kill.

That swing snowballed into a decisive base turret siege, handing Omega the opening win.

But Falcons, desperate to stay alive in the playoff race, hit back in Game 2. Veteran shot-caller Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel (Zhuxin) spearheaded the fight, notching a double kill in the 15th-minute lord skirmish. Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo (Grock) then caught Kenneth “Netskie” Barro (Claude) with a perfectly timed Earthen Rampart, paving the way for a game-tying push.

With both squads trading momentum, it was Game 3 that defined the night. Salik “Hadji” Imam (Valentina) teamed up with Jeymz to snipe Marco “Super Marco” Requitiano (Moskov) from the backline in the 20th-minute lord dance.

With Falcons’ defenses unraveling, Netskie (Karrie) swooped in for a double kill, completing a three-man wipe that cracked open the series-clinching march.

The loss kept Team Falcons anchored at the bottom with a 2-9 record. Their path to the postseason is now razor-thin, requiring a perfect sweep of their remaining games.

For Omega, though, this was a night of renewed belief. A team once seen as stumbling now suddenly looks dangerous again — just in time for the playoff chase.
