Fresh off the success of staging the 2025 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship, the Philippines is once again stepping onto the world stage. The country has officially been awarded hosting rights for the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, a milestone that reinforces its growing reputation as a true home of world-class volleyball.
The announcement came in dramatic fashion on championship night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena — just half an hour before Italy and Bulgaria clashed for men’s gold.
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo, accompanied by Brazilian volleyball legend and FIVB ambassador Leila Barros, delivered the news to a crowd already buzzing with international energy.
For Azevedo, the decision to return to the Philippines is about more than just organizing matches.
“Hosting the Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2029 in the Philippines is an opportunity to again showcase not only the very best of volleyball, but also the positive impact our sport has on society. Volleyball is unique in its accessibility, inclusivity, and its ability to unite people from all backgrounds,” Azevedo said.

He pointed to the Philippines’ passionate reception of the men’s championship as proof that the country embodies volleyball’s spirit. “That has been so profound here in the Philippines as the country hosts the Volleyball Men’s World Championship 2025, and we have no doubt that it will be the same for the 2029 edition. Together, we are taking another step towards doubling the Global Volleyball Movement from over 800 million to 1.6 billion people, ensuring an even brighter future for volleyball worldwide.”
For Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) President Ramon “Tats” Suzara, the announcement was both validation and motivation.
“We have learned many things in hosting the Men’s World Championship in 2025, and we will surely do it even better for the Women’s World Championship in 2029,” said Suzara.
Determined to turn momentum into legacy, Suzara highlighted how hosting major volleyball tournaments aligns with broader national goals. “We are determined to carry forward the momentum of the World Championship 2025 and channel it into something lasting for our athletes, our fans, and our nation. It is also an honor to see the sport that I love contribute meaningfully to my country’s sports and tourism agenda.”
He added, “The 2025 Championship has shown that the Philippines is ready to be a long-term home for world-class volleyball. I am confident that we will once again deliver a truly spectacular Championship.”
Adding star power to the announcement, members of Alas Pilipinas Women, led by captain Jia De Guzman and head coach Jorge Souza de Brito, were in attendance — a fitting reminder of how the sport has captured the local imagination.
With the men’s world championship already in the books and the women’s edition set for 2029, the Philippines has emerged not just as a host, but as a stage where volleyball’s global story continues to unfold. For fans across the archipelago, the next chapter is already being written.
