Pureblends on verge of acquiring NorthPort franchise, PBA confirms

The entry of Pureblends Corporation into the PBA is now just a signature away.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial revealed on Thursday that the league is only ironing out the final details before Pureblends officially takes over the NorthPort Batang Pier franchise.

“It’s almost a done deal,” Marcial said during the PBA Media Day at Centris Elements in Quezon City. “They’re just sorting out some financial details, the deed of sale and some nitty-gritty stuff.”

Sources indicate that Pureblends, which is expected to carry one of its brands under the Titan name, secured the franchise for P90 million.

While the sale has yet to be given full clearance, Marcial is confident the new ownership will be in place by the league’s milestone 50th season, tipping off on October 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Even ahead of formal approval, Pureblends has already made its presence felt within the team’s operations. Company owner Bryan Calantoc was recently spotted watching one of the squad’s tune-up matches, signaling the group’s active involvement.

“There’s no more stopping a Titan from wreaking havoc in the PBA,” Marcial said, hinting at the team’s rebrand and the fresh energy the new owners are expected to bring.

NorthPort, formerly known as GlobalPort, has been in the league since 2012.

Despite never winning a PBA championship, the Batang Pier have produced stars like Terrence Romeo, Christian Standhardinger, and Robert Bolick, and are best remembered for their gritty underdog runs in the playoffs.
