The 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship has done more than bring the best volleyball nations to Manila—it has set the stage for a long-term transformation of the sport in the Philippines.

Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Tats Suzara confirmed that a seven-year development plan is already being crafted in partnership with the FIVB, Volleyball World, and the Philippine Sports Commission. The goal: make sure the momentum generated by the World Championship doesn’t end when the final whistle blows.

“We’re preparing a seven-year development plan with FIVB now, to strengthen more of our men’s volleyball team, including our women’s team,” Suzara said.

The announcement comes at the height of volleyball fever in the country. Alas Pilipinas Men stole the spotlight with a gutsy World Championship debut that exceeded expectations. The team stunned Egypt for its first-ever win on the world stage and nearly toppled Iran in a five-set thriller, ultimately finishing 19th overall—second-best among Asian squads.

Even after the Nationals bowed out, the energy never faded. Packed houses at both the Mall of Asia Arena and Smart Araneta Coliseum continued to roar for volleyball powerhouses like USA, Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, and Belgium. For Suzara, that’s the clearest sign that something bigger is happening.

“I’m very happy that the Philippine people now love men’s volleyball,” he said. “Before, it was only women’s, but now they love men’s volleyball with all the exciting trials and hard action.”

For years, women’s volleyball dominated the country’s spotlight. Now, thanks to Alas Pilipinas’ breakthrough and the World Championship’s electrifying atmosphere, the men’s game has carved out its own loyal following.

Suzara believes this seven-year partnership with the FIVB will be the springboard to build on that momentum—strengthening the national teams, growing the grassroots system, and ensuring the Philippines keeps its seat at the global volleyball table.

What began as a historic hosting could ultimately mark the birth of a lasting legacy.
