Despite a controversial stoppage loss against Oscar Collazo on Saturday, Jayson Vayson found solace after Boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya came up to praise him.
De la Hoya, a former six-weight world champion, comforted Vayson and acknowledged his bright future in boxing.
“He was very nice and he told me that I have a very good chance of becoming a world champion someday,” Vayson told the Daily Tribune.
Vayson revealed that De la Hoya was his idol and was shocked when the former world champion approached him after the fight.
“He’s my idol that’s why I was so happy that he approached me and talked to me,” Vayson said.

Vayson’s journey for a strawweight crown was suddenly halted after his corner threw in the towel at 1:41 of the seventh round, citing safety reasons for the Filipino boxer.
De la Hoya is the lead promoter of Collazo’s present promotion, Golden Boy Promotions, and has previously touted the World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) Strawweight champion as boxing’s next big thing.
The Puerto Rican remained undefeated in 13 fights with 10 stoppages, while Vayson dropped to a 14-2 record.
A rematch with another Filipino boxer in Melvin Jerusalem is likely for Collazo, who is on a journey to become the undisputed Strawweight king.
