Even with the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship still in full swing, the Philippines has already earned top marks from the sport’s highest office.
FIVB President Fabio Azevedo has given the country a “perfect score” for its first-ever hosting of the global volleyball showpiece, with the Round of 16 currently underway at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“Man, 10 out of 10,” Azevedo declared during his ride on the LRT-2 World Championship train from Recto to Cubao.
The volleyball chief commended the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for its meticulous work behind the scenes — from scheduling and logistics to player accommodations and venue readiness. “Those guys, they rock. The way that they worked here from the beginning, preparing every single detail of the World Championships and being absolutely focused and concerned about the quality and persistence of the service towards our athletes. So our athletes, they are 100% satisfied,” he said.

Azevedo stressed that beyond the technical execution, the Philippines has shown the world its passion for the sport. Crowds have filled venues, fans have dominated social media conversations, and the atmosphere has been distinctly Filipino.
“Listen, always the uniqueness is regarding the culture and the public, right? So Filipinos, they love our sport. Filipinos, they are so warmly welcoming each and every one of us coming to the country,” he added. “And I can assure you that each and every one of the athletes and entourage they are being here to perform during the world championships. They are extremely happy. So that’s the uniqueness of the world championships.”
The FIVB chief acknowledged the difficulty of staging such a massive tournament for the first time, but he credited the Philippines for passing the test with flying colors.
“They’re giving 10 out of 10 in terms of their conditions and their performance best. So this one, first set, is a big tackle for the local guys in terms of their capacity,” Azevedo noted.
“But if you check every single point in terms of promotion, look of the games, branding, activation, co-presentation, fan engagement, venue we are playing is an Olympic international standard. So I would give to the local guys in the community 10 out of 10.”
With glowing praise from the FIVB, the Philippines has not only proven it can handle a world-class event but has also cemented its place on the global volleyball map.
