Alex Eala gears up for back-to-back WTA 125 campaigns in China

Filipina tennis sensation Alexandra “Alex” Eala is set to continue her busy 2025 schedule with two straight WTA 125 tournaments in China, keeping her momentum alive as she climbs the world rankings.

After reaching the quarterfinals at the São Paulo Open, the 19-year-old is now eyeing a strong showing at the Jingshan Tennis Open from September 22 to 28, followed immediately by the Suzhou WTA 125 from September 29 to October 5.

Currently ranked world no. 57, Eala has been rewriting Philippine tennis history in 2025. She stormed into the semifinals of the Miami Open, her deepest run at a WTA 1000, and reached the finals of Eastbourne Open, proving she can compete with some of the best on the tour.

She also achieved a long-awaited milestone with her Grand Slam main draw debuts at the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.

Her breakthrough moment came in New York, where she became the first Filipino player to win a Grand Slam singles main draw match in the Open Era, outlasting Denmark’s Clara Tauson in a dramatic three-set thriller.

Earlier this year, she also lifted her first WTA 125 title in Guadalajara, adding to her growing résumé of titles that includes three ITF professional singles crowns and a pair of junior Grand Slam doubles championships at the 2020 Australian Open and 2021 French Open.

Eala’s steady rise has been historic for Philippine tennis, as she became the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam singles main draw match in the Open Era at the 2025 US Open.

Now preparing for consecutive WTA 125 tournaments in China, Eala continues to push for new milestones in her career, with a Top 50 ranking on the WTA Tour firmly within her sights.
