Is Stanley Pringle the solution to Rain or Shine’s semifinals hump?

After stints of lowly basketball, Stanley Pringle is back with a contender and eager to show he could still contribute to a championship push ahead of the PBA’s historic golden season.

Pringle, a former Best Player of the Conference, signed a two-year deal with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters last July after a one-season detour with Terrafirma Dyip.

Only joining the team this week, Pringle hopes to lift the Elasto Painters out of their semifinals hump in the past year. Rain or Shine bowed out of the Governors’, Commissioners’, and Philippine Cups last season, all at the hands of powerhouse Talk N’ Text Tropang 5G.

For Pringle, helping the young team get over that hump is exactly why he joined the team as his experience as a champion with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel could push a core that consists of Gian Mamuyac, Shaun Ildefonso, and Caelan Tiongson, as well as new draftees that include Christian Manaytay, Jun Roque, Mark Omega, and Deo Cuajao.

“Definitely, a great group of guys, young guys led by coach Yeng [Guiao]. I’m looking to come in and help the team as much as I can, help wherever I can fit in, especially in the playoffs,” he said. “they’ve been in the semifinals three times in the past three conferences. I’m just looking to step in and do what I can do to try to help the team win.”

Pringle averaged 13.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists as the Dyip’s premier player last season, but alongside Adrian Nocum, he expects his role to be more team-oriented, focusing more on chemistry than individuality.

“That depends on how we gel as a team. Me, I just got here last week. As far as my role right now, it’s about team chemistry. We are going to have a team building and got to find chemistry there.” he said.

“There is going to be steps first before you could just come and say, ‘This is my role in the team.’ I’ve got to gel with the guys, got to practice more than a couple of days,” added Pringle.

Time will tell if Pringle can help Rain or Shine in the postseason, but his addition almost definitely warrants big expectations for a team that has been rebuilding to get back to the top of the PBA mountain.
