Filipina tennis star Alex Eala continues her steady climb in the WTA world rankings, moving to No. 57 following a string of impressive performances in recent weeks.
The 20-year-old is now just two spots shy of matching her career-best standing.
Eala achieved her previous career-high ranking of No. 55 after capturing her first-ever WTA 125 title in Guadalajara, where she swept through the field and defeated Hungary’s Panna Udvardy in the final.
That breakthrough not only marked a milestone for Philippine tennis but also pushed her into uncharted territory as one of the few Southeast Asian players to break the top 60.

Since then, she has kept her form intact, extending her win streak to seven matches before bowing out in the quarterfinals of the São Paulo Open WTA 250 in Brazil.
The run was enough to keep her inside the top 60, with the latest WTA update placing her at No. 57, a small dip from her Guadalajara peak but still firmly near her best standing yet.
Eala’s rise has been steady over the past months. From being ranked No. 75 earlier in the season, she stormed up nearly 20 places after deep runs in major tournaments, including her historic Grand Slam main-draw win at the US Open and her semifinal finish at the Eastbourne International.
Now, the Filipina ace turns her attention to the Jingshan Tennis Open in China (WTA 125, Sept. 22–28), the start of her Asian swing. The tournament is expected to feature a competitive field, including familiar rivals such as Arianne Hartono, as Eala looks to sustain her momentum and possibly reclaim or even surpass her career-high ranking.
Her recent surge reflects not just raw talent but also growing maturity on tour, with every step forward putting her closer to breaking into the WTA Top 50, a feat no other Filipino player has yet achieved.
