Alas standout Alyssa Solomon joins Osaka Marvelous, becomes fifth Filipina import in Japan SV.League

Alyssa Solomon’s dream of playing professional volleyball abroad is now a reality. The former NU Lady Bulldogs star and current Alas Pilipinas opposite hitter has officially signed with Osaka Marvelous, the reigning champions of Japan’s SV.League.

The 6-foot opposite hitter had always aspired to play professionally abroad, coming off a stellar run with NU where she collected multiple UAAP titles and preseason crowns. She even entered the 2025 KOVO Draft in South Korea but later pulled out after regulations prevented active UAAP players from joining while the season was still in progress.

Solomon now becomes the fifth Filipina to play in Japan’s top-tier league, joining the ranks of trailblazers like Jaja Santiago and Jia de Guzman. She is also the second active Filipino import this season alongside Santiago, who once played for Osaka before moving to Denso Airybees.

“Solomon is an opposite who has competed in many international tournaments as the Philippines representative, and he has a great variety of aggressiveness,” Osaka Marvelous said in its official announcement Tuesday. “With the addition of Solomon, we will strengthen our team capabilities even more and move forward to achieving a consecutive title in the SV.League.”

The move is symbolic as well as competitive—Solomon is effectively stepping into the void left by Santiago, another NU and Alas Pilipinas standout, who helped Osaka win the championship last season before moving to Denso.

From her days as a two-time Palarong Pambansa MVP with NU-Nazareth to becoming a two-time UAAP Best Opposite Hitter and the Season 87 Finals MVP, Solomon’s rise has been marked by consistency and dominance.

She amassed six titles with NU across both high school and college before transitioning to the international stage.

Her stock only grew with the national team, as she powered Alas Pilipinas to a historic silver medal at the AVC Nations Cup and back-to-back bronze medals in the Southeast Asian V.League.

Now, her leap to the Japanese champions represents not just a personal milestone, but another breakthrough for Philippine volleyball talent on the global stage.

With Osaka Marvelous targeting back-to-back crowns, Solomon’s entry adds firepower to a team already stacked with experience—and gives Filipinos another star to cheer for in Japan’s most competitive volleyball league.
