ONIC Philippines showed grit under pressure, escaping TNC Pro Team with a 2–1 victory in Week 4 of MPL Philippines Season 16 on Sunday at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.

The reigning M-Series champions finally snapped their struggles in rubber matches, clinching their first Game 3 win this season after faltering in their previous two attempts. The result improved their record to 5–2, enough to claim solo second place at the halfway mark of the regular season.

“I think may mga conditions lang pagdating sa set-ups, kung pano yung gagawin namin against sa gagawin nila. Obviously nung Game 2, mas nagawa nila (TNC) yung kelangan nila gawin sa first turlte. Nung last game, mas nagawa namin yung mga conditions namin,” said ONIC head coach Tony “Ynot” Senedrin.

The Sonics opened strong behind King “K1NGKONG” Perez, who delivered a flawless performance on Lancelot. His 11th-minute maniac sealed Game 1 in ONIC’s favor as he wrapped up with a spotless 6–0–2 KDA.

TNC roared back in Game 2, sparked by Frediemar “3MarTzy” Serafico’s Arlott setups that shifted control in their favor. His crucial midlane ambush at the 13-minute mark paved the way for Justine “Zaida” Palma’s Yi Sun-Shin to clean up a drawn-out clash, scoring a triple kill that forced the series into a decider.

ONIC, though, refused to let history repeat itself. Sticking to comfort heroes Joy, Granger, and Gatotkaca, they dictated the tempo in Game 3. Duane “Kelra” Pillas stepped up in the closer, piloting Granger to an immaculate 7–0–1 outing to secure the breakthrough win.

TNC slid to 3–4 with the defeat, though they remain in solo fifth place.

With their Game 3 curse finally broken, ONIC heads into the second half of the season armed with momentum as they prepare for a marquee rematch against defending champions Team Liquid PH.
