Maverick Ahanmisi return to Converge deal collapses

A potential move between Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Converge FiberXers that revolved around former PBA All-Star Maverick Ahanmisi collapsed, according to PBA insider Homer Sayson.

Converge reportedly offered big man Paolo Javillonar and a second-round pick to the dismay of Ginebra, who requested a single first-round pick instead.

The counteroffer was rebuffed by the still-rebuilding Converge, who drafted Juan Gomez de Liano with the second overall pick in the Draft.

Ahanmisi, a former champion with Ginebra, has previously played with the Fiberxers in 2023, when he averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists before signing with the Gin Kings for three years on a maximum contract.

The Filipino-American has failed to beecome one of Ginebra’s primary scorers, like he was in Converge. He averaged 5 points and 2 assists per game while playing only 13 minutes.

Converge added de Liano, Kobe Monje, Tony Ynot, JM Manalang, and JP Cauilan, among others, in the draft while also extending star Schonny Winston for two years after a long stalemate.

Meanwhile, Ginebra is still looking to return to the PBA mountain, signing big man Norbert Torres and selecting Sonny Estil and John Abis in the Draft.
