Agatha Wong clinched a bronze medal for the Philippines in the women’s taijijian event at the 17th World Wushu Championships in Brasilia, Brazil.
The 27-year-old tallied 9.703 points to finish third behind Japan’s Shino Saito (9.740) and Singapore’s Zeanne Law (9.726), securing a podium finish that also marked a bounce-back performance after her struggles at the Chengdu World Games.
The country also celebrated a silver medal courtesy of Carlos Baylon Jr., who finished runner-up in the men’s sanda 56 kg division. Baylon has been one of the most consistent sanda fighters for the Philippines this year, adding the silver in Brasilia to his earlier gold medal at the IWUF Sanda World Cup in Jiangyin, China.
Meanwhile, Russel Diaz (men’s sanda 52 kg), Gideon Fred Padua (men’s sanda 60 kg), Xander Alipio (men’s sanda 65 kg), Jenifer Kilapio (women’s sanda 52 kg), and Krisna Malecdan (women’s sanda 56 kg) also brought home bronze medals, rounding out a strong campaign for the Filipino contingent on Brazilian soil.
