Two-time champion Kevin Ferrer signs with TNT

TNT Tropang 5G bolstered its injury-plagued roster after signing two-time PBA champion Kevin Ferrer to a one-year deal, the team announced on Monday.

TNT secures one of their three targets, which include Christian Standhardinger and Justin Chua, as big man Poy Erram is set to miss the league’s golden season due to an ACL injury. 

The 32-year-old was not resigned by his former team, Terrafirma Dyip, amidst buzz following the team’s failed sale to Zamboanga Valientes. He averaged 10.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in eight games last season.

The former University of Santo Tomas captain previously played for Ginebra San Miguel, where he won a title in 2016 and, again, in 2018, before being dealt to the Northport Batang Pier. 

After recovering from an Achilles injury last season, Ferrer will also be reunited with his former Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes.

TNT also re-signed Mike Nieto for one year and drafted former Ateneo guard Sean Quitevis and ex-Red Lion big Joe Celzo.

Tropang 5G was on the brink of completing a historic grand slam last season before falling short against the San Miguel Beermen in the Philippine Cup.

Long-time skipper Jayson Castro will also be recovering from injuries suffered last season alongside Simon Enciso, Rey Nambatac, Jielo Razon, and Jordan Heading.
