Converge acquires No. 2 pick ahead of PBA Draft

The Philippine Basketball Association approved a big trade between the Converge FiberXers and Phoenix Fuelmasters.

Converge has acquired the 2nd pick of the upcoming PBA Draft, alongside a second-round pick next year from Phoenix for Bryan Santos and the 8th pick.

The deal comes after the FiberXers and Fuelmasters were also involved in a three-team deal with Northport Batang Pier on Thursday that sent the 14th pick in last year’s draft, Evan Nelle, to Phoenix and Larry Muyang to Converge.

Batang Pier also acquired the services of Jeo Ambohot under the trade.

Finishing with a 24-18 slate last season, the FiberXers’ future looks bright as their core of last year’s No. 1 pick, Justine Baltazar, Alec Stockton, and Schonny Winston, will be reinforced by newly-acquired Muyang, whose indefinite ban for playing in the MPBL with the Pampanga Giant Lanterns without permission was lifted, and whoever the quarterfinalists pick.

Converge will have a myriad of choices for the top pick with former UP Fighting Maroon Juan Gomez de Liano, Filipino-American Jason Brickman, former Gilas Youth standout Dalph Panopio, and former NCAA Season 98 MVP Will Gozum among the 128 aspirants.

Meanwhile, Phoenix will be bolstered by the addition of the 6’5 Santos, who averaged 4.3 points and 2.1 rebounds last season, to their exciting wing rotation of Ricci Rivero and Tyler Tio.

They missed the playoffs last season after finishing with a record of 8 wins and 25 losses.
