Japan, USA come in full force for FIVB Men’s World Championship in Manila

Japan and the USA are coming to the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Manila this month equipped with their strongest rosters seeking a shakeup at the top of the volleyball scene.

Coming off disappointing quarterfinals finishes in the last three global tournaments, world No. 5 Japan is eyeing for a different story this time around led by fan-favorite Ran Takahashi, Yuji Nishida, and captain Yuki Ishikawa.

The Japanese spearhead Pool G alongside Canada, Turkey, and Libya.

Meanwhile, the USA look to bounce off of their bronze-medal finish at the 2024 Paris Olympics with the same core of star setter Micah Christenson, captain Erik Shoji, and 2024 Paris Olympics Second Best Middle Blocker Taylor Averill.

The Americans are set to face world Cuba, Portugal, and Colombia in Pool D

Both nations are expected to draw huge support from the home crowd in Manila alongside hosts Alas Pilipinas Men, who will clash against Iran, Egypt, and Tunisia in Pool A.

Defending champions Poland will start their campaign in Pool B against the Netherlands, Qatar, Romania, while world No. 1 Italy are drawn in Pool F against Ukraine, Belgium, and Algeria.

World No. 3 Brazil will face Serbia, Czech Republic, and China in Pool H, while dark horse Slovenia were slotted in Pool E alongside Germany, Bulgaria, and Chile.

France and Argentina were drawn alongside Finland and South Korea in Pool C.

Alas  will open the 32-team tournament against Tunisia on September 12 before facing Egypt on the 16th and powerhouse Iran on the 18th to close the preliminaries at the Mall of Asia Arena.
