The Creamline Cool Smashers once again showed why they are the Premier Volleyball League’s gold standard for consistency, sweeping the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-15, 25-13, 25-22, to secure third place in the 2025 PVL Invitational Conference on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The bronze medal finish was Creamline’s second straight in as many weeks, and more importantly, stretched their incredible run of podium finishes to 19 consecutive conferences. Their decorated streak now features 10 championships, four silver medals, and five bronzes.

“Syempre thankful sa mga players talagang binigay nila yung 100-percent nila sa game na ito. Kesyo third or fourth, or Finals, yung Creamline naman talagang nandiyan palagi so talagang nagtrabaho yung mga players natin,” said head coach Sherwin Meneses, praising his team’s effort.

Relying on their seasoned trio of Michele Gumabao, Alyssa Valdez, and Jema Galanza, the Cool Smashers blew the second set wide open. Down 7-8, they uncorked a scorching 18-5 run that completely took the fight out of the Crossovers, setting themselves up for a straight-sets win.

Chery Tiggo, however, didn’t bow out quietly.

They raced to a 9-5 cushion in the third frame and stayed close until they forged a 22-all deadlock. But with the medal on the line, Gumabao rose to the occasion, hammering three consecutive points to complete the sweep in just 81 minutes.

Gumabao powered Creamline with 17 points built on 14 attacks and three blocks, while Galanza chipped in 12 markers alongside seven receptions and seven digs. Valdez also made her presence felt with nine points, 18 receptions, and 13 digs.

After the match, Gumabao highlighted both the team’s hunger and unity: “Excited din lahat kung makaka-podium ba kami and kami rin naman, yun din naman yung pinipilit namin,” she said. “Whether pinaglalabanan namin yung championship o yung third place, kailangan pareho talaga yung intensity namin and I think nabigay naman ng lahat ng tao, ng buong team kahit yung mga hindi nakitang maglaro.”

She added, “They were present and talagang focused talaga lahat so it was really a team effort and kasama na rin talaga yung energy ng mga fans kanina.”

On the other side, Ara Galang was the lone bright spot for Chery Tiggo with 10 points and five digs, while Cess Robles provided nine markers. The Crossovers, semifinalists in the PVL On Tour, settled for a fourth-place finish this time.
