Savannah Davison embraces pressure as PLDT eyes back-to-back PVL titles

Savannah Davison has quickly established herself as one of the Premier Volleyball League’s brightest stars and the undisputed leader of the PLDT High Speed Hitters.

The Filipino-Canadian outside hitter powered PLDT to their first-ever crown in the PVL On Tour preseason tournament, toppling the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the finals. Now, just weeks later, she has the High Speed Hitters back in title contention — this time in the PVL Invitational Conference — after steering them past the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 24-26, 25-17, 25-14, on Thursday, August 28, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

It has been a whirlwind stretch for PLDT, whose campaign has spanned a grueling two-month preseason and a cross-country Invitational run that took them to five different cities.

Davison admitted the hectic schedule has tested the squad’s limits but said the challenge has only fueled their determination.

“I think it speaks more than words going into a tournament and having to play back-to-back games every other day, especially for the other teams that aren’t performing as well,” she said.

“We take it seriously going into the Finals that we want to take whatever lessons learned, maximize whatever opportunities our opponents give us, and make the most of our potential there.”

At 26, Davison has become PLDT’s emotional anchor, balancing the physical grind with a resilient mindset.

“I don’t wanna put a number to it, but mentally, I’m there. If I speak it out into the world, then it becomes true — mind over matter. Come the day of the Finals, I’m gonna be physically prepared and mentally prepared, especially with the help and support of our team. Every individual is responsible for their own, so the best I can do is just be ready myself,” she explained.

Pressure, Davison insists, isn’t something to shy away from. It’s what brings out her best.

“I love the pressure. I’m looking forward to the day in general — practicing in the morning, going into the game, and trying to end it with a bang to show everybody that we can do it again,” she said with a smile.

With their talisman in peak form mentally and the rest of the squad feeding off her energy, the High Speed Hitters are not just aiming for another championship — they’re determined to prove they belong among the PVL’s elite.
