The Premier Volleyball League (PVL), led by president and Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) vice president Ricky Palou, has assured that its players will be available to represent Alas Pilipinas in the upcoming 2025 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Bangkok, Thailand.
The men’s and women’s volleyball tournaments at the SEA Games are not FIVB-sanctioned, meaning the PVL and its clubs are not obligated to release players. The FIVB’s mandatory national team window only runs from May 16 to October 15.
Still, Palou confirmed that the league will make players available even as the PVL Reinforced Conference runs from October to November.
“Of course. The agreement is that the chosen PVL players will continue to play in the league during the Reinforced Conference while also training with the national team three times a week. Once the conference ends in late November, they will fully shift to national team practices,” Palou explained.
Currently, four Alas Pilipinas players have already returned to their respective PVL clubs for the ongoing Invitational Conference: Dawn Catindig (Cignal HD Spikers), Jen Nierva (Chery Tiggo Crossovers), and Dell Palomata and Alleiah Malaluan (PLDT High Speed Hitters).
Other PVL standouts representing the national team are also expected to rejoin their clubs for the import-laden conference in October. However, the availability of Angel Canino, Shaina Nitura, and Cha Loresco remains uncertain, as there is still no confirmation if their UAAP teams—La Salle, Adamson, and Far Eastern University—will release them.
The volleyball competition at the 2025 SEA Games will take place from December 9 to 20 in Bangkok.
