Yeng Guiao explains Stanley Pringle’s absence from Rain or Shine’s preseason camp

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters made a major offseason move by signing veteran guard Stanley Pringle to a two-year deal on July 15, strengthening their roster ahead of the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) 50th season.

However, the four-time PBA champion has yet to join his new team in preseason training. Head coach Yeng Guiao confirmed that Pringle remains in the United States as he awaits the birth of his child and finalizes travel documents for his family.

“Stanley will arrive in the first week of September. He’s waiting for his wife to give birth, and then they’ll need about 10 days to secure the baby’s papers so they can bring the child here,” Guiao said in a media interaction.

Pringle’s signing followed his brief stint with Terrafirma Dyip, which acquired him along with Christian Standhardinger and a 2023 first-round pick from Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in exchange for Isaac Go, Stephen Holt, and another 2023 first-round pick. In the Philippine Cup, the 38-year-old guard averaged 13.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. However, Terrafirma opted not to renew his contract, allowing him to enter free agency.

The Filipino-American guard now joins a Rain or Shine team brimming with young talent, including Adrian Nocum, Gian Mamuyac, Anton Asistio, Andrei Caracut, Keith Datu, and Santi Santillan—all of whom played pivotal roles in the Elasto Painters’ semifinal run in the Philippine Cup.

Guiao expressed confidence that Pringle will quickly adapt to Rain or Shine’s system, citing the veteran’s professionalism and desire to compete for a contender.

“Stanley is very easy to deal with. When negotiations began, we only spoke once and everything was already settled. We didn’t argue over the details. He knows Rain or Shine’s situation, and we also understood his. I think he just wants to play for a team that can contend and make use of his talent,” Guiao explained. “We’re excited to have him by the first week of September.”

Pringle, a seasoned professional with international experience in Belgium, Poland, Ukraine, and Indonesia, was the first overall pick in the 2014 PBA Draft by NorthPort Batang Pier. Widely respected in the league, he boasts an impressive resume: four PBA titles, 2015 Rookie of the Year, 2018 scoring champion, 2020 Best Player of the Conference, seven All-Star selections, and the reputation of being one of the league’s most consistent guards.

With his veteran leadership and championship pedigree, Pringle is expected to provide stability and experience to Rain or Shine’s youthful core as they aim to build on their strong showing last conference.
