Alyssa Valdez added another highlight to her decorated volleyball journey after being recognized as the Second Best Outside Hitter in the recent PVL on Tour — her first individual award since 2023.
The Creamline Cool Smashers skipper had not picked up an individual honor since the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference, where she was named Second Best Outside Spiker.
Multiple knee injuries stalled her progress in the seasons that followed, including a lengthy layoff in 2024 that once again kept her off the court.
Her latest award, however, stands as proof of her successful return. “After two years of a rollercoaster ride in terms of my therapy and getting back 100 percent, I’m just very, very happy na meron tayong statement na nakakabalik,” Valdez said. “I just really want to say thank you, and I’m so grateful for all the people behind na tumutulong sakin na makabalik ako.”
Valdez was at the heart of Creamline’s preseason run, helping extend the club’s podium streak to 18 consecutive conferences. The three-time PVL MVP also turned in consistent numbers, ranking 10th in scoring (69 points), seventh in spiking (31.75%), ninth in aces (0.32 per set), and 10th in receiving (35.12% efficiency).
For Valdez, the award carries weight not just as a personal milestone but as added drive to keep performing at a high level.
“Honestly, siyempre it’s a big pressure and responsibility getting an award but definitely it’s a confidence-booster din talaga. Sana magtuloy-tuloy lang ‘yung ganitong games and makatulong pa rin ako sa team,” she added.
Valdez and Creamline are set to return to the hardcourt on Thursday, against the Cignal HD Spikers in the 2025 PVL Invitational Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
