Gilas Pilipinas has gained a timely boost with the addition of Quentin Millora-Brown, who has officially been cleared to suit up for the Philippines as a local in the upcoming 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

The 6-foot-10 forward-center, who once suited up for the University of the Philippines in a one-and-done stint, was initially classified by FIBA as a naturalized player.

However, after an appeal was filed on his behalf, the decision was overturned, granting him local player status and opening the door for his long-awaited inclusion in the national pool.

The clearance could not have come at a better moment for Gilas. The 2025 FIBA Asia Cup highlighted a glaring need for more size and depth in the frontcourt. While AJ Edu showed promise, veterans June Mar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar struggled to keep up with the younger and more athletic big men of Asia, underscoring the importance of having another skilled big in the rotation.

For Gilas wing star Dwight Ramos, the news was especially welcome. He expressed excitement at the prospect of working with Millora-Brown during practice.

“He’s another big man, and he’s pretty skilled. I’m looking forward to seeing him at practice,” said Ramos, who was one of Gilas’ bright spots in the Asia Cup, averaging 16.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

The road ahead won’t be easy. Gilas is set to navigate six qualification windows on the path to the 2027 World Cup, starting with a home-and-away series against Guam in November.

After that, the Philippines will brace for clashes against perennial regional powerhouses—the Australia Boomers and New Zealand Tall Blacks—teams that have consistently posed a tough challenge for Asian squads.

With Millora-Brown’s inclusion, however, Gilas is hopeful that its reinforced frontline can match up better against the towering competition. For the Nationals, his arrival signals not just added height, but also renewed optimism for the battles ahead.

“I think it’s great,” Ramos said. “If you want to be the best, you’ve got to play against the best, so I’m glad we’re in a pool with Australia and New Zealand.”

As of the moment, Dwight Ramos will return to his B.League home team Levanga Hokkaido with additions of their own with the likes of Keisei Tominaga and ex-NBA lottery pick Jahlil Okafor.
