Cignal’s rising star finished the preseason on the highest of notes, capturing the Most Valuable Player award in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Sunday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

For 25-year-old opposite spiker Erika Santos, it was more than just an accolade—it was the long-awaited breakthrough moment of her professional career.

Santos had shown flashes of her potential during her stint with PLDT, but her transfer to the HD Spikers allowed her to step into a bigger role and truly shine. Seizing the opportunity, she powered her way to her first individual award in the pros, proving she could thrive as the team’s top scoring option.

The numbers backed up her dominance. Santos finished the preliminary round as the tournament’s best scorer, racking up 87 points built on 78 attacks, six blocks, and three service aces.

Beyond sheer volume, she also displayed efficiency, leading the spiking department with a 37.50-percent success rate—an impressive mark that solidified her reputation as a reliable go-to scorer rather than just a secondary threat.

Her rise was one of the season’s standout stories, but she wasn’t the only player honored on awards night. In a throwback to their prime form, Alyssa Valdez of Creamline and Petro Gazz’s Myla Pablo were recognized as the tournament’s Best Outside Hitters, proving that experience and leadership remain valuable assets in today’s game.

The Cool Smashers also celebrated more individual success as playmaker Kyle Negrito bagged her fourth Best Setter award, while middle blocker Pangs Panaga extended her reign as one of the league’s most consistent defenders, winning the Best Middle Blocker award for the seventh time in her career.

Joining her at the net was Majoy Baron, the newly crowned champion with PLDT, who led the blocking department this preseason to claim another Best Middle Blocker citation. On the defensive end, veteran libero Kath Arado once again showcased her world-class floor defense, adding another Best Libero trophy to her growing collection.

Meanwhile, Farm Fresh’s Trisha Tubu continued to shine in her role as a scoring anchor, earning the Best Opposite Hitter award yet again, further cementing her status as one of the league’s most dangerous attackers.

For Santos and the rest of the awardees, the PVL On Tour was not just a preseason tune-up, but a stage to prove their growth, resilience, and readiness for the bigger battles ahead.
