The Magnolia Hotshots have officially ended their longtime partnership with veteran big man Rafi Reavis, releasing the 48-year-old after a decorated 15-season run with the franchise.

The team made the announcement on Saturday, August 16, through its social media platforms, expressing gratitude for Reavis’ contributions both on and off the court.

“We are grateful to have learned from you and to have been part of your life. You will always be a part of ours. We wish you all the best, and we are very much excited for you as you take on the next chapter of your career,” the statement read.

Reavis, who was acquired in a three-team trade in 2009, played a vital role in Magnolia’s success over the years. He helped the team win seven PBA championships, including the historic 2009 Philippine Cup under coach Ryan Gregorio and the 2013–14 Grand Slam campaign with the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers. During that Grand Slam season, Reavis averaged 3.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game across 67 appearances.

Throughout his tenure, Reavis became a symbol of longevity and consistency, playing under several head coaches including Gregorio, Jorge Gallent, Tim Cone, Jayson Webb, and most recently Chito Victolero.

In his final season with the team, Reavis was used sparingly off the bench, appearing in just 17 games. Despite the reduced role and advancing age, the 6-foot-8 center is reportedly not yet considering retirement.

“Titingnan niya raw kung may mag-offer pang PBA teams if ever,” a report stated, indicating that Reavis is open to continuing his career if opportunities arise.

A second overall pick in the 2002 PBA Draft, Reavis began his professional career with Coca-Cola and later played for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, winning two championships with each team. He retires from Magnolia with 11 PBA titles to his name — one of the most accomplished careers in league history.

Reavis’ departure comes amid a wave of offseason changes for the Hotshots. Magnolia recently replaced long-time head coach Chito Victolero with LA Tenorio, who takes on his first major coaching role after an illustrious playing career.

The team also named Jayson Webb as its new team governor and brought in Kirk Collier from Barangay Ginebra as an assistant coach. In terms of roster moves, Magnolia re-signed Peter Alfaro, Russel Escoto, and Joseph Eriobu, while also acquiring veteran guard Paolo Taha via free agency.

As the franchise prepares for a new era, the departure of Reavis marks the end of an important chapter in Magnolia’s storied history — one filled with championships, leadership, and a legacy that will be hard to match.
