PLDT High Speed Hitters clinch first PVL crown after epic battle vs Chery Tiggo

The PLDT High Speed Hitters ended the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason tournament in the best possible fashion by defeating the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-17, 25-17, 19-25, 24-26, 15-8, to win their first-ever PVL title in front of 11,055 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, August 17.

PLDT looked to cruise to a victory but squandered a two-set lead, with Chery Tiggo poised to complete a stunning turnaround. However, Mika Reyes delivered when it mattered most, keeping her composure and scoring a career-high 20 points off 13 kills and seven blocks to be named the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP). She received strong support from Savannah Davison, who contributed a game-high 23 points, while Erika Dy and Majoy Baron chipped in 13 points each.

Kath Arado continued to be the rock on defense with 29 digs and 13 excellent receptions, while Kim Fajardo showcased her playmaking skills with 25 excellent sets.

“I have been saying this from every angle — we are a threat. People keep telling me, it’s Savi, but in practice and in games, I cannot believe the girls that show up. I think we have some of the best athletes in our gym, and I’m just so glad to be a part of it. They make me better every day, and I just hope I can do the same,” Davison said in the post-match press conference.

“It was definitely a process. We started not from the bottom, but it felt like we couldn’t catch a break — from semis, quarters, whatever it was. But it just makes it feel so much better when you had to fight for it. So I’m glad that we were able to show up tonight and do what we had to do,” she added.

This is the High Speed Hitters’ first PVL championship since joining the league in 2021, and the victory was made even sweeter as PLDT received ₱1 million as champions. Chery Tiggo earned ₱750,000, while the Creamline Cool Smashers — who defeated the Cignal HD Spikers to secure bronze — received ₱500,000 for finishing third.

The High Speed Hitters have no time to rest as they will now aim to continue their strong form in the PVL Invitational Conference, which starts on Thursday, August 21, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Chery Tiggo, meanwhile, secured silver in their first PVL finals appearance since the 2021 Open Conference, held during a COVID-hit bubble in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
