Pinoy 10-ball standout Chezka Centeno aims for gold in 2025 World Games

Team Philippines heads into the next phase of the 2025 Chengdu World Games with renewed drive and optimism, buoyed by recent podium finishes from its athletes. Jenna Napolis delivered a silver medal in jiu-jitsu, while Carlos Baylon Jr. earned a bronze in men’s sanda—both adding to the nation’s medal haul and lifting the morale of the entire delegation.

The 26-year-old Centeno secured her spot in the championship match with a commanding 7-2 victory over Spain’s Mayte Ropero, and now routs Shasha Liu  on Wednesday towards the  gold-medal clash.

Confidence was on Centeno’s side, as she holds a winning record against Liu. “I am confident because I have beaten Shasha several times before,” Centeno said. “I will do my best to advance to the final and take home the gold medal.”

Meanwhile, over at the Xindu Xiangcheng Sports Centre, the men’s floorball team ended their campaign on a winning note, crushing host nation China with a resounding 14-0 victory in the classification match for seventh place. 

The dominant performance was a refreshing turnaround after the squad suffered heavy defeats to European powerhouses earlier in the tournament.

The emphatic win not only capped their run with pride but also lifted the spirits of the remaining Filipino athletes still in contention. 

This was especially important following the early exits of jiu-jitsu 52-kg silver medalist Kaila Napolis and Annie Ramirez, who both bowed out in the women’s open ne-waza division earlier in the day. With the blend of recent triumphs and resilient performances. 

Centeno and the rest of the Philippine contingent are backed in full by the Philippine Olympic Committee, under the leadership of president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, and the Philippine Sports Commission. The strong institutional support has been crucial in helping the athletes focus on their respective events despite the intense competition in Chengdu.
