Creamline, PLDT set for high-stakes PVL semifinals showdown

The Premier Volleyball League semifinals will ignite on Tuesday with a blockbuster clash between the powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers and the unbeaten PLDT High Speed Hitters.

Creamline, owners of an impressive 10 PVL championship titles, will attempt to derail the flawless run of PLDT, who have yet to lose a match in the tournament.

For both sides, the stakes couldn’t be higher. PLDT has swept aside six opponents en route to this stage and now stands just a win away from its first-ever finals appearance — a historic feat that could vanish if Creamline finds its rhythm.

On the other hand, Creamline enters the contest with a legacy to protect, having made the finals in each of their last 13 campaigns. The defending champions are determined to extend that streak and position themselves for yet another title run.

The Cool Smashers will bank on the leadership of volleyball icon Alyssa Valdez and the defensive prowess of former Adamson standout Jema Galanza, while PLDT will turn to the explosive offense of Savannah Davison, whose powerful spikes have been a tournament highlight.

Head coach Sherwin Meneses has expressed full confidence in his Creamline squad, noting that their mental toughness has remained intact despite earlier setbacks in the season.

Also in the spotlight are the playmakers — Creamline’s crafty setter Kyle Negrito, known for her precise sets and ability to maximize her hitters, and PLDT’s seasoned floor general Kim Fajardo, who thrives in creating scoring opportunities for her wingers.

PLDT dominated the classification phase with a perfect 5-0 record, a sharp contrast to Creamline’s 3-2 finish. However, both teams proved their championship pedigree in the quarterfinals — Creamline sweeping Farm Fresh in straight sets and PLDT overpowering ZUS with ease — setting the stage for a semifinal battle brimming with intensity and drama. 

The semifinal match will commence at 6:30pm while Chery Tiggo and Cignal will also face-off  at the 4pm curtain raiser.
