The Philippines is exploring the idea of hosting the World Games in 2033

The Philippines are exploring the idea of hosting the World Games in 2033, with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) already opening discussions with various international federations on the matter.

The World Games is a quadrennial multi-sport event featuring sports and disciplines not included in the Olympic Games. Baseball, softball, cheerleading, dance sport, and rugby are among the sports featured in the Games.

The PSC confirmed in a media interaction that discussions have already taken place between International World Games Association President Jose Perurena Lopez, Chief Executive Officer Joachim Gossow, and PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio regarding hosting duties.

“The World Games is all about bringing together athletes and the community for sports. One important aspect in hosting the Games is the involvement of people. You don’t need new facilities; we don’t give it to big cities. What we want is a host that will bring together its people and give attendees a tournament they will always remember,” Lopez said.

“What we can offer is a game with a heartbeat. We can do this for the Philippines. Imagine everyone coming together to welcome 110 countries and offer the warmth of Filipino hospitality. This is achievable,” Gregorio added.

As it stands, the bidding is open until 2026. Should the Philippines submit a bid and be accepted, it would become the first Southeast Asian country to host the World Games.

The 2025 edition of the World Games is currently taking place in Chengdu, China, while the 2029 edition is set for Germany, where around 5,000 athletes in 34 sports disciplines are expected to compete.
