Los Angeles Lakers icon LeBron James, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history, has built a résumé that includes four championships, numerous accolades, and the league’s all-time scoring record.
Now 40 years old and nearing the twilight of his career, James recently exercised his $52.6 million player option with the Lakers for the 2025–26 season—one many believe could be his last in the NBA. His eventual retirement has already sparked speculation about his next chapter.
Among those keeping an eye on LeBron’s future is rap legend and Big3 founder Ice Cube, who says he would welcome the superstar to his 3-on-3 basketball league.
“I mean, I would love to,” Cube said in a recent interview. “At this point, I don’t know if we have to go after anybody. They know we’re here. It’s a great opportunity to have a spotlight on you in the summer when a lot of the noise is elsewhere. It’s a great way to keep your brand going. He doesn’t need help with that, but he may still want the competition, have some fun, and help basketball.”
Cube added that James’ presence could take the league to another level. “At the end of the day, it would be all eyes on him, the league would grow, and he would help players who really do need the Big3.”
James has given no indication of when he plans to retire or what his post-NBA plans will be. Reports have linked him to the idea of starting a basketball league in Europe to rival the NBA, and he was recently spotted meeting with the agent of Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić.
If LeBron were to suit up in the Big3—even briefly—it would not only boost the league’s visibility but also create one of the most high-profile signings in its history. For now, the basketball world waits to see what path “The King” will take once his reign in the NBA concludes.
