The New York Knicks have made a significant move in the ongoing NBA offseason by securing a key piece of their roster — forward Mikal Bridges.

NBA insider and ESPN’s Shams Charania announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Bridges has agreed to a four-year, $150 million contract extension with the Knicks.

“New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges has agreed to a four-year, $150 million contract extension with the franchise,” Charania reported, citing agents Sam Goldfeder and Jordan Gertler of Excel Sports Management. “The new deal includes a player option for 2029–30 and a trade kicker.”

Knicks management was pleased to finalize the deal in time, especially with Bridges approaching free agency. The extension comes in below the 28-year-old’s maximum eligible amount of $156.1 million, signaling his willingness to take a pay cut to provide the Knicks with financial flexibility.

His $37.5 million average annual salary ranks fourth on the team’s payroll behind Karl-Anthony Towns ($55.1 million), OG Anunoby ($42.5 million), and Jalen Brunson ($39.1 million).

Bridges was instrumental in the Knicks’ run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season — their first since the 1999–2000 campaign. He averaged 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in a career-high 37 minutes per game, starting all 82 regular season and 18 playoff games. In the postseason, he added 15.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.9 blocks, and 1.7 steals per contest.

Originally selected 10th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2018 NBA Draft, Bridges spent five seasons with the team before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets. After one season in Brooklyn, he was dealt to the Knicks along with Keita Bates-Diop in a blockbuster trade that sent Bojan Bogdanovic, Shake Milton, Mamadi Diakite, five future first-round picks, a first-round pick swap, and a second-round pick to the Nets.

Bridges’ extension continues a busy offseason for the Knicks, who also hired Mike Brown to replace Tom Thibodeau as head coach and signed Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency.
