Ettore Guidetti claims that Nxled are no longer the underdogs of the PVL after the Chameleons sealed a quarterfinal spot

The Nxled Chameleons are enjoying a strong run in the ongoing Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason tournament, defying expectations to record a 4-1 win-loss record and placing second in the Pool A standings.

Nxled booked their spot in the quarterfinals after defeating the Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-13, 25-16, 25-14, in their final preliminary game on Sunday, July 27, at the USJ-R Coliseum in Cebu City.

Nxled head coach Ettore Guidetti has been pleased with the performances of his players, leading him to declare that the Chameleons are no longer the underdogs of the PVL On Tour. The Italian tactician only took over the reins of Nxled in the 2024–25 All-Filipino Conference, where they finished 12th, and he now believes the players have adapted to his tactical system.

“Right now, we have a system, and the system is working by itself. It takes time. I know it’s difficult. Once again, I am grateful to our president because he gave me the opportunity and the chance to keep going with my work. Something has changed, and the girls are really playing good volleyball,” Guidetti said.

Guidetti confirmed that Nxled’s first loss to the PLDT High Speed Hitters was an eye-opener for his team, prompting them to pull up their socks. The lessons learned from that loss have paid dividends as they prepare for their first-ever quarterfinal appearance in the PVL.

“There are a lot of things that we have to work on. Yesterday’s game against PLDT showed that if we face a team that is very good at blocking and defense, we crash. And one thing is going under pressure—it makes their life a little more simple. This is the major step we have to take. But we have a little bit more time,” he added.

Nxled now have a short break to prepare for the quarterfinals, although they do not yet know the identity of their opponents. Their game is scheduled for Saturday, August 9, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
