TNT’s Poy Erram confirms ACL injury in emotional social media post

The TNT Tropang Giga were dealt a major blow before Game 6 of the recently concluded Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup after star center Poy Erram was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.

It was initially reported that Erram had suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee and required surgery — an unfortunate development, as he sustained the injury during Game 4. This came on top of another setback: he had already sprained his ankle while contesting a shot from San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo in Game 2, forcing him to miss Game 3.

The 36-year-old later confirmed fans’ worst fears by announcing on Instagram that he had sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

“With a heavy heart, I share that I have suffered an ACL injury. It’s painful, it’s frustrating, and I have every reason to be mad. But I also know that God has a greater plan for me. This setback will only make me stronger — physically, mentally, and spiritually. I trust that this journey will bring me even closer to Him,” Erram wrote in his post.

“To all the fans: Thank you for your unwavering support. Your love means more than words can express. This is not the end — just a new chapter in the story He’s writing for me,” he added.

This latest ACL injury is especially concerning for Erram, who has a history of ACL tears dating back to his collegiate career with Ateneo and his early days in the PBA with Blackwater Bossing.

At 36, another serious injury could potentially spell the end of his professional basketball career.

The injury is also a major setback for Tropang Giga, whose Grand Slam hopes ended with their 107-96 loss to the San Miguel Beermen in Game 6 at the Philsports Arena on Friday, July 25, crowning the Beermen as Philippine Cup champions.

It remains unclear how long Erram will be sidelined, but his absence will be felt as TNT management prepares to defend both the Commissioner’s Cup and Governor’s Cup titles in PBA Season 50.

Before his injury, Erram had established himself as a frontrunner for Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors, averaging 22.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game.
