Nxled Chameleons sweep Farm Fresh to clinch first-ever PVL quarterfinal spot

The Nxled Chameleons have enjoyed a brilliant run in the ongoing 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason tournament, and they continued their good form by sweeping the Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-13, 25-16, 25-14, at the USJ-R Coliseum on Sunday, July 27.

EJ Laure-Carino led from the front for Nxled with a game-high 19 points, while Chiara Permentilla added 10 markers of her own. Jovelyn Fernandez contributed eight points, and Jaycel Delos Reyes and Krich Macsalang chipped in with five and four points, respectively. However, all of this would not have been possible without the masterclass by playmaker Jaja Maraguinot, who tallied 11 excellent sets and kept the team in rhythm.

This is the first time that Nxled have secured qualification in a PVL tournament, and head coach Ettore Guidetti was delighted with the result. However, he revealed that the only thing he would have changed was having to defeat his former deputy and current Farm Fresh head coach Alessandro Lodi.

“To be honest, it’s the only thing that made me not happy today because I prefer to win against anyone, but not against Alessandro. Alessandro is not only a friend—he is a person that I deeply respect as a colleague. We’ve had many, many opportunities to get in touch with each other, to share drills, to share knowledge. And Alessandro has got very important experience in the US. So, basically, I was asking him for a lot of feedback,” Guidetti said in the post-match press conference.

“I had a different experience in Europe, so we shared a lot. It’s really important that we are exporting a little bit of Italian volleyball into Asia. It looks like it’s working. If you see our national team, it’s really working. So this is what we try to do—what we can do,” he added.

As it stands, Nxled have finished the pool stage with a 4-1 win-loss record, and their quarterfinal opponents and schedule are yet to be determined by league authorities. Farm Fresh, meanwhile, are placed third in Pool A and needed to win their clash against Nxled to seal a spot in the playoff stages.
