The Petro Gazz Angels were recently dealt a major blow after head coach Koji Tsuzurabara parted ways with the franchise just three months after leading them to their first-ever Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference title.

In another setback for Petro Gazz, the team management, on Sunday, July 27, took to its various social media handles to announce that they had parted ways with veteran spiker Mich Morente and setter Donnalyn Paralejas.

“As your journey with us comes to a close, we look back with deep gratitude for the passion, perseverance, and heart you showed while wearing our colors with pride — fueling our drive throughout the past conferences, all the way to our championship run. Wherever the road takes you next, you carry with you our full respect, support, and admiration. Maraming salamat, Momo and Donna,” the statement read.

Morente signed with Petro Gazz after departing the PLDT High Speed Hitters in January 2024, following a strong showing in the first two conferences of the 2023 season. However, she saw a drastic reduction in playing time in the second All-Filipino Conference after head coach Rald Ricafort opted to use Filipino-Canadian spiker Savannah Davison and Erika Santos as the team’s main offensive options.

The veteran spiker was part of Petro Gazz’s historic run to their All-Filipino Conference title and also played in the 2025 Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Champions League.

Paralejas, meanwhile, was selected 18th overall by Petro Gazz in the 2024 PVL Draft. It is understood that her rookie contract was not renewed by the franchise. As per PVL rules, second-round picks and beyond are entitled to a minimum one-year contract.

The Angels have struggled in the ongoing PVL On Tour preseason tournament, as evidenced by their 1-3 win-loss record. They will aim to improve their standings in their final pool game against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans on July 29 at the Candon City Arena.
