Ettore Guidetti calls for Nxled to stay grounded after recording their best-ever start to a PVL tournament

The Nxled Chameleons are enjoying a brilliant 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason tournament, continuing their unbeaten start by defeating the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena on Tuesday, July 15.

The victory marks Nxled’s third consecutive win, following impressive triumphs over PVL giants Petro Gazz Angels and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in their first two games. This is now Nxled’s best-ever start to a PVL tournament in franchise history.

Nxled head coach Ettore Guidetti praised the fight and talent shown by his team but emphasized the need to stay grounded, noting that this run doesn’t automatically make them playoff contenders.

“To be honest, the reality is that the level is absolutely not higher than last season. The All-Filipino Conference was another level. We kept working with the same system, so it was simple for the new players to integrate. We brought in very good players to raise the level,” Guidetti said in the post-match press conference.

“Basically, we doubled up in a way because the other teams are a little less, and we are two times more. That’s the real reason,” he added.

The well-traveled Italian coach admitted that he gave a pep talk to his players over a week ago to boost their confidence.

“I had a speech, I think, about 10 days ago. I said, okay, right now, people are not considering us the worst team anymore, or something like that — maybe the dark horse. I don’t know how to define it. We have to start thinking about it and accepting a little bit more pressure. What we try to do in practice is raise the pressure and manage the game naturally.

“At the same time, we have to try to become a little bit deaf to what’s outside, because the truth is that every single conference is different, and every single match is totally different,” Guidetti concluded.

Despite their perfect start, Nxled sits second in Pool A behind the PLDT High Speed Hitters. They will aim to continue their dream run when they face the pool leaders on Saturday, July 26, at the USJ-R Coliseum in Cebu City.
