The TNT Tropang Giga have kept their hopes of winning that elusive Grand Slam of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) titles alive by securing a spot in the finals of the ongoing Philippine Cup.

The Tropang Giga booked their place in yet another PBA finals after cruising past the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 4–2, in the semifinals of the Philippine Cup. Central to their run was the stellar performance of star guard Jordan Heading, who has quickly established himself as a key piece of the franchise.

Acquired from the Converge FiberXers in exchange for Mikey Williams, Heading wasted no time adapting to TNT’s system and has stepped up for a squad plagued by injuries. TNT qualified for the finals despite being without veterans Kelly Williams, Jayson Castro, Rey Nambatac, and Roger Pogoy, while Calvin Oftana played through pain after spraining both ankles in Game 4.

The Filipino-Australian star took control in Game 4, scoring a team-high 23 points to go along with five rebounds and six assists to help TNT defeat Rain or Shine, 108–92, and take a 3–1 series lead. He followed it up with his best performance in a TNT jersey in Game 6, dropping 29 points — including nine in the fourth quarter — to help close out the series and send the team to the finals.

Heading averaged 18.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.0 steal in three games, and his clutch performances earned him the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for the period of July 2 to 6. He edged out competition from teammates Calvin Oftana and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio and Scottie Thompson, and San Miguel’s CJ Perez for the weekly honor, awarded by sports journalists from broadsheets, tabloids, and online outlets.

“I’m thankful to be in this position with these guys and to be learning from them. You know, they have experience that I don’t have yet — of winning all these championships. So I’m just trying to learn, listen, and follow the boys who have already done it, and help out wherever I can,” Heading said after receiving the weekly honor.

With the team dealing with multiple injuries, TNT management will be hoping Heading maintains his strong form heading into the finals. They will find out their opponent on Wednesday, July 9, when the San Miguel Beermen and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel clash in a do-or-die Game 7 of their semifinal series.
