National Basketball Association (NBA) superstar Kevin Durant’s blockbuster trade to the Houston Rockets from the Phoenix Suns became official in the early hours of Monday, July 7 (Philippine Standard Time).

The deal was approved by NBA authorities, with Durant’s trade making history as part of a record-setting seven-team deal — the most organizations involved in a single transaction in league history.

According to NBA insider and ESPN’s Shams Charania, the historic deal includes:

  • Kevin Durant and Clint Capela to the Houston Rockets
  • Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Daeqwon Plowden, Rasheer Fleming, Koby Brea, and a second-round pick to the Phoenix Suns
  • Alex Toohey and Jahmai Mashack to the Golden State Warriors
  • David Roddy, cash, and a second-round pick swap to the Atlanta Hawks
  • Adou Thiero to the Los Angeles Lakers
  • Two second-round picks to the Brooklyn Nets
  • Rocco Zikarsky, two second-round picks, and cash to the Minnesota Timberwolves

The trade surpasses the previous record set last year — a six-team transaction that saw Klay Thompson move to the Dallas Mavericks from the Golden State Warriors, with the Charlotte Hornets, Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, and Denver Nuggets also involved.

“One of the greatest to ever play the game, we are grateful for the impact Kevin made on our organization and in our community. As a member of the Suns, he climbed the scoring charts to become just the eighth player in NBA history to score 30,000 career points. We wish him the best as he continues his career in Houston,” said Phoenix general manager Brian Gregory.

Durant is widely considered one of the greatest players in NBA history. He averaged 26.6 points per game last season for Phoenix, closely matching his career averages of 27.2 points and seven rebounds per game. Houston becomes the fifth team Durant will represent in the NBA — following the Seattle SuperSonics (later Oklahoma City Thunder), Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets, and Phoenix Suns.

“Kevin impacts the game on both ends of the court and is one of the most efficient scorers in the history of basketball. We liked the growth our team showed last season and believe Kevin’s skill set will integrate seamlessly,” said Houston general manager Rafael Stone.

“Having played against Kevin and coached him before, I know he is the type of competitor who fits with what we’ve been building here in Houston. His skill level, love for the game, and dedication to his craft have made him one of the most respected players of his generation, and my staff and I are excited to work with him,” Rockets head coach Ime Udoka added.

Durant was selected second overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2007 NBA Draft. He is a two-time NBA champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP, the 2014 NBA MVP, two-time NBA All-Star Game MVP, 2008 NBA Rookie of the Year, a four-time NBA scoring champion, and has earned 15 NBA All-Star selections, among other honors.
