The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles registered their first win of the ongoing Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour preseason tournament after defeating the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 15-11, at the Ynares Center in Montalban on Sunday, July 6.

Rookie AC Miner, the fifth overall pick in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft, led from the front for her new team, scoring 18 points on 13 kills and five blocks, as ZUS Coffee bounced back from their opening-game loss to the Akari Chargers. Miner came to life in the fourth set and helped ZUS Coffee get back into the game.

“In the second set, I couldn’t score anymore, so the coaches and my teammates helped me add some variations to my attacks. It worked, because we were able to catch up in the fourth set, and we got the win today,” Miner said in the post-match press conference.

Miner received strong support from veteran Jovelyn Gonzaga, who finished with 14 points, while Kate Santiago added 17 points. Setter Clo Mondonedo registered 37 excellent sets, while rookie Mycah Go contributed seven points, 23 excellent receptions, and 13 digs.

“Of course, I’m happy. And these games have been long. We have been going to five sets almost every time, but it’s still fun. It’s not that easy to integrate all the players, but we will get there,” said ZUS Coffee head coach Jerry Yee.

The victory gives ZUS Coffee a 1-1 win-loss record as they now head to Passi, Iloilo, where they will face PVL powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers on July 19 at the City of Passi Arena.

Capital1, meanwhile, are struggling under new head coach Jorge Souza de Brito, remaining winless after four games. They have more than a week to address their tactics and shortcomings before facing the Akari Chargers on July 15 at the FilOil EcoOil Arena.
