‘The job will be delivered’: Jorge Souza de Brito stays confident amid Capital1’s poor start in the PVL On Tour

Brazilian tactician Jorge Souza de Brito has endured a disappointing return to the managerial hot seat in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), as the Capital1 Solar Spikers have had a poor start to the ongoing PVL On Tour preseason tournament.

The Solar Spikers were pummeled by the Creamline Cool Smashers and the Cignal HD Spikers in their first two games of the PVL On Tour leg in Vigan City. What made their performances even more disappointing was that they failed to put up a fight in either game, losing both in straight sets.

De Brito is not too worried by his team’s poor performances, as it is still very early to make any assumptions. He has been in charge for less than a month, and the players are still adjusting to his system and tactics.

“The players are already training hard and focusing on improvement for this season. We will use this competition to prepare the team, and it’s still too early to see the achievements. We are talking about a change in mentality, system, and how to prepare to play volleyball at a high level and be very competitive. Does it take time? Yes,” De Brito said during a media interaction.

“We just started. There has still not been enough time, even though we are training every day. It’s just been less than a month, but the job will be delivered,” he added.

The 58-year-old makes a valid point, as his team is playing in the ongoing preseason tournament without national team standouts Leila Cruz and Bella Belen, who was the No. 1 pick in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft.

There is no doubt that De Brito is the best choice to turn the Solar Spikers’ fortunes around, as evidenced by his achievements with the Philippine women’s national volleyball team. The Brazilian has led Alas Pilipinas to historic success despite limited preparation time.
