The Creamline Cool Smashers continued to show why they are the best team in Premier Volleyball League (PVL) history by shrugging off a second-set hiccup to defeat the Akari Chargers, 27–25, 22–25, 25–19, 25–18, in their second game of the PVL On Tour preseason tournament on Monday, June 23, at the Chavit Coliseum in Vigan City.

As in their first game, Creamline were led by their core — Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, and Michele Gumabao — who delivered in front of their adoring fans at the Chavit Coliseum. Gumabao led the way with 18 points and received strong support from Valdez (16 points and 18 excellent receptions), while Galanza put on an all-around performance with 12 points, 18 digs, and 10 excellent receptions.

Kyle Negrito, rookie Sheena Toring, and Pangs Panaga also chipped in with six, 10, and eight points, respectively, as the middle blockers combined for five of the team’s 11 blocks.

“Siyempre happy kami dahil kahit back-to-back ‘yung games namin — kasi first time na mangyari sa amin talaga na magkasunod na araw — siguro marami pa kaming i-improve para magtuloy-tuloy ‘yung magandang laro namin,” Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses said after the win.

“We are very happy and grateful na na-apply namin lahat ng na-train namin for the last three weeks, and we are looking forward na mag-improve pa kami,” Valdez added.

However, Creamline did suffer a scare as Akari fought back to win the second set, thanks to the brilliant performances of ace scorers Ivy Lacsina, Eli Soyud, and Grethcel Soltones.

The victory ensured that Creamline shared the lead with the Cignal HD Spikers in Pool B, ending their Vigan City leg unbeaten and giving joy to their fans. The Cool Smashers will now battle Cignal for the top spot in Pool B when the two teams meet on Tuesday, July 1, at the FilOil EcoOil Arena.
