The Creamline Cool Smashers displayed why they are the best team in Premier Volleyball League (PVL) history by streamrolling the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25-10, 25-21, 25-10, in their opening game of the PVL On Tour preseason tournament at the Chavit Coliseum in Vigan City on Sunday, June 22.

Creamline, the most popular team in the PVL, put on a show in front of a packed Chavit Coliseum. The Cool Smashers’ core—Alyssa Valdez, Jema Galanza, Pangs Panaga, and Michele Gumabao—all contributed to their dominant victory. Gumabao earned Player of the Game honors with 11 points, revealing after the game that the entire team went through a tough grind in the offseason.

“It’s great to start the way we wanted. We really wanted to bounce back and make the fans here in Vigan happy. We are so thankful for the warm welcome they gave us. We worked hard these past three weeks—we kept on training because we really wanted to start strong,” Gumabao said.

Gumabao added that she was not surprised by the performance of new additions Sheena Toring and Nica Celis, believing that the duo possess all the traits needed to succeed in the league.

“They have been working hard and adapting well to Creamline’s culture and team work ethic. They bring a fresh perspective to the squad, and they are doing really well—we are proud of them,” she added.

Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses echoed Gumabao’s comments, adding that the players need to continue improving both offensively and defensively.

“We are happy to open the tournament with a win, especially given our short preparation. I think in our upcoming games, we will execute our attacks even better. I think in our next games, we will work more on improving our offense and defense. It’s very important for us, especially since we are playing back-to-back. We need to get some rest now so we can perform well on Monday,” Meneses stated.

In addition to Gumabao, Galanza finished with 12 points and eight digs, Panaga contributed 10 points, and Valdez made her presence felt with nine points, six digs, and five excellent receptions. Kyle Negrito made 19 excellent sets, while rookie Sheena Toring added five points, including two aces.

It’s worth noting that this was a depleted Solar Spikers team, missing top rookie pick Bella Belen and Leila Cruz—a wake-up call for new head coach Jorge Souza de Brito, who last coached in the league in 2023 with the Akari Chargers.

The Cool Smashers will aim to make it two wins in a row in Pool B when they face the Akari Chargers on Monday, June 23, at the Chavit Coliseum in Vigan City. Meanwhile, Capital1 will look to secure their first win of the PVL On Tour when they face the Cignal HD Spikers at the same venue on Monday.
