Team Liquid PH continues dominant run, clinches first playoff spot in MPL PH Season 17 

Perfection, at some point, stops being a goal and starts becoming a target. That’s the space Team Liquid PH now occupies in MPL Philippines Season 17.Week 5 extended their winning streak after beating Aurora Gaming PH and Twisted Minds.

The defending champions extended their unbeaten run to 9-0 and became the first team to secure a playoff spot after back-to-back 2-0 sweeps of Aurora Gaming PH and Twisted Minds at the Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City. 

With the streak, they are now closing in on the 13-game regular season record set by Northern Lights in Season 16.

At the center of their success is KarlTzy, who continues to deliver standout performances. He earned three Game MVPs in Week 5—two against Aurora and one against Twisted Minds. 

While also leading the league in average gold per minute with 773. He currently ranks second in average kills with 4.19, with teammate Sanford also making his mark among the league leaders.

Against Aurora, Team Liquid PH quickly took control of the series. In Game 1, they built an 8–1 kill lead within the first seven minutes and closed the game in just 11 minutes, finishing with a massive 8,800 gold advantage. KarlTzy led the way with a flawless 6-0-5 KDA.

Aurora showed more fight in Game 2, gaining early momentum, but Team Liquid PH’s superior map control and coordination gradually turned the tide. A decisive final push sealed the sweep, with KarlTzy posting a 4-0-4 KDA to secure back-to-back MVP honors.

The momentum carried into their match against Twisted Minds. In Game 1, Sanji took charge using Valentina, finishing with a strong 3-1-10 KDA as Team Liquid dictated the pace throughout.

Game 2 followed a similar script. Team Liquid PH surged to an 8-3 lead just four minutes in, leaving little room for a comeback. KarlTzy once again delivered a flawless performance, going 7-0-5 on Leomord to complete the sweep and secure their playoff berth.

Beyond the wins, the numbers highlight their consistency. Team Liquid PH leads the league in Lord control at 73.2% and average kills at 14.2, while ranking second in average assists with 33.6—clear signs of a team excelling in both strategy and execution.

Their biggest test yet awaits in Week 6, where they face a red-hot Team Falcons squad riding a six-match winning streak and will also take on AP Bren on May 3.

Meanwhile, the league has officially announced that the MPL PH Season 17 playoffs will be held at the San Juan Arena from May 27 to 31, setting the stage for a high-stakes finish.

For now, Team Liquid PH remains the team to beat—undefeated, in control, and showing no signs of slowing down.
