Alex Eala earns seeded entry to Round 2 of Wells Indian Open

The 20-year-old Filipina has officially entered the tournament as one of the 32 seeded players, earning an automatic passage to the second round—an achievement made possible by her climb to a career-high world No. 31 in the latest rankings.

Often referred to as the biggest event outside the four Grand Slams, the Indian Wells tournament marks another major step in Eala’s steady ascent on the Women’s Tennis Association circuit. Her run eventually ended in the quarterfinals against two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff, but the experience further solidified her growing presence on the tour.

Indian Wells will once again feature the sport’s biggest names. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka returns determined to finally capture the title after multiple runner-up finishes, while Iga Świątek seeks to add another desert crown to her collection.
