Veteran guard Juami Tiongson signs a three-year contract extension with the San Miguel Beermen

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) powerhouse, the San Miguel Beermen, are once again having an impressive campaign in the ongoing Philippine Cup, as evidenced by their third-place standing in the table.

San Miguel have qualified for the playoffs of the Philippine Cup, and one of the reasons for their stellar showing in the tournament has been the performances of deadly shooting guard Juami Tiongson.

The San Miguel management has been impressed by the guard’s stellar performance in his short time with the club—so much so that they have extended Tiongson’s contract by three years, though the exact monetary details haven’t been disclosed to the media or fans.

Tiongson was delighted to extend his contract with San Miguel, expressing gratitude to the management and top brass for placing their trust in him.

“Very grateful sa San Miguel management sa malaking tiwala na ibinigay nila sa akin,” Tiongson stated.

It’s worth noting that San Miguel only acquired the 34-year-old—along with Andreas Cahilig—from Terrafirma Dyip in exchange for Vic Manuel and Terrence Romeo on November 25, 2024, prior to the start of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

This will be Tiongson’s first quarterfinal appearance with his new team, considering that San Miguel failed to secure qualification in his first tournament with them, which was the Commissioner’s Cup. In fact, this is the veteran guard’s first quarterfinal appearance since last year’s All-Filipino Conference, when he was still part of Terrafirma’s roster.

“San Miguel na ito. Iba na yung standard sa team na ito. Siyempre, the goal is to win the championship, but we always want to take it one game at a time and build on our current success,” he added.

It will be intriguing to see whether Tiongson can win the first PBA championship of his career with San Miguel come the end of the tournament.
