The PBA Philippine Cup has finally reached its near-end, with powerhouses reaching the postseason as expected, but with a few added surprises. The Converge FiberXers, led by their star rookie Juan Gomez de Liaño, have captured a twice-to-beat advantage heading to their Quarterfinals matchup against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

While fellow upstart team NLEX Road Warriors are looking to break through the league’s upper echelon by trying to dismantle June Mar Fajardo and the San Miguel Beermen.

Who knew that the FiberXers would boast a twice-to-beat advantage heading into the postseason and would be facing a Ginebra team struggling after the departure of Jamie Malonzo? de Liaño has emerged as a franchise cornerstone for Converge and has perfectly complemented the team’s core of Justin Arana, Schonny Winston, and Justine Baltazar.

Meanwhile, Ginebra, despite having a better end to the eliminations, has not shown that it is capable of a deep playoff run. With that being said, Ginebra is still coached by Tim Cone, who has time and time again proved his and the team’s mettle in the postseason. But a Converge team that has already beaten them in the eliminations will be a tough mountain to climb.

San Miguel Beermen (twice-to-beat) vs NLEX Road Warriors

Despite a very rough start to the league’s golden season, San Miguel has regained their winning ways. Fajardo looks unstoppable yet again, while their bench has shown up. Meanwhile, NLEX has reached the playoffs with Robert Bolick, who has improved his playmaking alongside his lethal scoring.

It may be easy to think that the Road Warriors can topple San Miguel, given the rough start and having a younger and faster roster, but as history teaches us, Fajardo will continue to be Fajardo, moreso in the Philippine Cup playoffs.
