Redemption came with precision and power for the Philippine Blu Boys, who stormed back to the top of Southeast Asian Games men’s softball with a commanding 3–0 victory over Singapore on Thursday at the Queen Sirikit Baseball Stadium in Pathum Thani.

Six years after losing the regional crown on home soil, the Filipinos flipped the script against the same rival, restoring a dominance that once defined the program.

At the heart of the triumph was a masterclass from left-hander Jehanz Maristela Coro, who turned the final into a pitching clinic.

Coro struck out 17 batters and allowed just two hits, freezing Singapore’s lineup from start to finish. The offense provided timely support, with Justine Rosales igniting the charge through a solo home run before Lyona de Leon delivered the decisive blow — a two-run single in the fourth inning that put the game firmly out of reach.

The gold capped a resilient campaign for the Blu Boys, who went 2–1 in the preliminaries with mercy-rule wins over Malaysia, 11–1, and Thailand, 12–0, both in just four innings.

Their only blemish came at the hands of Singapore in a 7–4 loss, a result that lingered as motivation rather than doubt.

When it mattered most, the Philippines made sure there would be no repeat, reclaiming a title they had won in eight of the previous nine SEA Games before 2019.

With the men’s crown secured, attention now shifts to the Blu Girls, who are eyeing a clean sweep of the softball events.

Mentored by Ana Santiago, the women’s team advanced to Friday’s final unbeaten at 4–0 in the preliminaries, highlighted by a tense 2–1 extra-inning win over Singapore. Another showdown awaits — and with it, a chance for Philippine softball to leave the SEA Games with both gold medals in hand.
